Grandma that I am, I wear flats all the time. You might think that at 5’1”, I would be self-conscious about my petite stature, but I’m not. I’m short and there is nothing wrong with that. I do not need to compensate by wearing heels. I enjoy wearing heeled shoes occasionally, just for fun, but flats are my go-to, running-around shoes. And that’s why I was so tickled by this funny tidbit from the February 2013 issue of O magazine:
“Spring fashion is shaping up to be a stiletto-free zone. No longer will you stand at a cocktail party praying for the sweet release of death. Embrace your ballet slippers, my friend—the flat will set you free!”
Happy weekend, friends! I hope it’s a good one for all of you. And definitely wear your flats—if not your ballet slippers, then your flat boots for a nice long winter walk.

Hooray for adorable flats! Unfortunately, it is currently not very wise to wear flats outside (though I've seen some people doing it) as we have a lot of ice underneath several inches of fresh snow. It's all about traction right now. I'm looking forward to spending time in NYC and Madrid in the spring and summer and giving my cute flats some good use.
Yay for flats indeed!! Also, glad to hear you are enjoying Oprah :)
Yes, your flats will come out to play later this year, R :-) I would imagine that wintertime in Alaska demands some creative nods toward style and getting dressed--adorable snow boots, perhaps?
Yay! Yes, I am enjoying the magazine. The current issue also had a column from Martha Beck about how to handle things when nothing is going right. It was an interesting read because that's how 2012 felt to me. I am so grateful that 2013 feels like a fresh start :-)
(PS I'm planning to give you a call later!)
love those! i also wear flats, and will never buy heels again... my feet/hips/alignment can't handle it :)
