And congratulations again on the ...Thanks, friend! And congratulations again on the new job--it sounds super cool and a great opportunity for you. I can COMPLETELY understand why you took it. And you are still a writer who earned her MFA and has written a book and still aspires to publish great work and support other writers who are publishing great work. No need to be a starving artist--be a well-fed one who has a day job :-)

A big part of freelancing's appeal to me is the learning curve. I think as long as I'm still learning and being challenged and enjoying the ride, I'll continue. I might not do this forever, and I'm comfortable with that possibility. I think I'm approaching the cusp of having a decent income doing this work. I'm not there yet, but by going full-time last year, I have given myself the chance to build this career more rapidly, tax burden and all.Rosiecat24https://www.blogger.com/profile/07219527037186545061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6822839939627192494.post-3741552410472120702015-04-02T10:20:47.777-05:002015-04-02T10:20:47.777-05:00I love how open you are about these things! It'...I love how open you are about these things! It's so interesting and helpful. I also got slammed by taxes, but I hired someone to do them for me and she saved me quite a bit.

I won't lie - part of the reason I went back to full time was because I just wasn't making enough as a freelancer, and part of that reason was because of these things like tax burdens, no benefits, etc. It really is stacked against self-employed people, which seems deeply unfair. I am so proud of you for sticking with it and living according to your values! I will live vicariously through your freelance adventures while I toil quietly behind my desk. (Which, to be fair, is a very nice desk in a very nice office full of very nice people. It could be much, much worse.)

xoxoChrissyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07392552248911691182noreply@blogger.com
